Sermon Outline: The Way
Below is a sermon on “The Way” – a phrase used throughout the book of Acts to describe the Church.
The Way (Act 9:2)
I. Introduction
- “The Way” first appears in Acts 9:2
- Used 4 more times throughout the book of Acts to describe Christianity (19:9; 19:23; 24:14; 24:22)
- This description teaches us some important truths about Christianity
II. It is Singular
- There is only one way to salvation – Jesus (Acts 4:9-12)
- There are not many ways within Jesus – just one (Eph. 4:4-6)
- While there is diversity individually, there must be unity as the Church (Rom. 12:4-5)
III. It is a Journey
- Acts 19:2 – Greek word is Hodos, “progress, a mode or a means, a journey or a highway.
- Christianity is a road to another place
- Life is a road to one of two places (Mt. 7:13-14)
- Our focus must be on our destination
- True Treasure (Mt. 6:19-21)
- Abraham (Hebrews 11:9-10)
- Moses (Heb. 11:25-26)
- Paul; “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Php. 1:21)
IV. It is absolute
- The world teaches there is no absolute truth. “All religions contain some truth – no religion contains all the truth”
- Pilate – “What is truth?” (John 18:38)
- Christianity is absolute – it is THE WAY.
- Jesus taught in absolutes
- The Word of God (John 17:17)
- The way to the father (John 14:6)
- Salvation
- The Way of salvation is absolute
- Belief (Jn. 8:24)
- Repentance (Lk. 13:3)
- Confession (Mt. 10:32-33)
- Baptism (Mt. 28:19-20; Mk. 16:16;
- The foreshadowing of Noah and the Flood (1 Pet. 3:18-22)
