I. What is Temperance?

  1. Definition
    1. Temperance – “self-control, the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, especially his sensual appetites” Thayer
    2. “moderation, self-control in the use of lawful things. Knowledge discovers the existence of things, and temperance determines the proper use of them.” – Brethren NT Commentary
  2. NT Usage
    1. Found three times in the NT – 2 Pet. 1:6; Gal. 5:23; Acts 24:25
