Ye are the Light of the World

Ye are the Light of the World

Sermon Outline by: Zach Evans

  1.  Intro
    1. Matthew 5:13-16
  2. The Purpose of Salt and Light
    1. Salt—Preserves, seasons, and heals.
      1. The world is sick, decaying, and bland
      2. Salt works because it is different from which it is applied.
    2. Light—Eliminates darkness
      1. The exact opposite of darkness and dimness.
      2. Let your light so shine!
  3. The state of the world
    1. The world is dark and dying, full of sin. – Ps. 14:1-3; Jn. 3:19-20
  4. Be as God
    1. Since the world is so full of darkness, sin, decay, we must be as the source of light—God and Jesus. – 1 Jn. 1:5-7; Eph. 5:1
    2. How do we receive this light? – 2 Cor. 4:6
      1. Be as Christ
      2. Jesus is light: Jn. 1:5-9; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35-36, 46
  5. We are the light
    1. Shine your light! Reflect the light of Christ and God!
      1. The moon is not a light source of itself, but it reflects the light of the sun. At night, it shines, making the night almost like day some times. We are like the moon. We must use the source of Christ and God’s Word to shine their light into the world.
      2. We are the light of the world. – 1 Thess. 5:5
      3. We have put off darkness – Rom. 13:12; Col. 1:13; Pro. 4:18-19
    2. Let us expose the darkness of the world! – Phil 2:15; 1 Pet. 2:12; Act 26:17-18; Eph. 5:13
  6. Conclusion
    1. You may be the only light they may ever see.
    2. Let the Lower lights be Burning (#527 in Sacred Selections)
    3. One lighthouse on a rocky and treacherous coast can save hundreds of sailors’ lives. This one light warns them of the dangers of the coming shore, and are saved from shipwreck. We can do the same. Our one light shines brightly in the darkness of the world. We may, through our example and teaching lead many to the safety of the harbor of Christ.
